The 51st Annual Amish Acres Arts & Crafts Festival runs from August 1-4, 2013 in Nappanee, Indiana.
An art competition, live entertainment and an Indiana Amish Country setting combine to form the annual Amish Acres Arts & Crafts Festival.
This event is ideal for art lovers wanting to combine their appreciation for arts and crafts with exploration of the Indiana Amish Country. The outdoor festival and market takes place at the Amish Acres farm’s pond.
Not content to rest on the artistic laurels of last year’s golden anniversary, the theme of the 2013 Amish Acres Arts & Crafts Festival is “Proud as a Peacock’s Plumage: The Colorful World of Art.” The festival draws its inspiration for the theme from the “It’s A-Peelin’ Apple Art,” an outdoor exhibit created by local artists and featuring a four foot tall apple sculpture of a peacock in full plumage. This Amish Acres historic Kuhn’s Apple Cider Mill, which is ranked in the Top 10 Cider Mills in America.
Attendance of this event is expected to be sky high once again, so it is recommended you reserve your lodging right away. Scottish Bed & Breakfast is just down the road a few miles from the festival and currently has rooms available through the festival weekend.
Every year for the past four years the Bremen, Indiana, Amish community called Rentown is having their Annual Garden Walk and Bake Sale Saturday, June 15, 9 AM – 3 PM. Everyone wanting to attend will meet at the Amish Rolling Meadows School to get their map, registration, bake sale and lunch will be going on all day.
New This Year at the Garden Walk, is a Working Maple Syrup Camp and the ladies are serving lunch, for a fee, of course. I love to see the clean weed-free gardens of flowers and vegetables. I also love the farm animals that I get to visit, horses, cows, chickens, goats and cattle dogs. Don’t forget to bring your cameras!
The Amish families are very friendly and very thankful that the money that is donated that day is used for the Amish School for the coming year. Come stay at the Scottish Bed and Breakfast and make an adventure of it.
Notre Dame graduation means another school year over and the students are excited to go home and work their summer away. When I worked at Notre Dame for sixteen years, I remember how sad I was to see the students leave. I always got close to several of them, because they worked in the same department as I did. The atmosphere around campus was different in the summer. I could not wait until they came back in the Fall. Notre Dame has changed a lot since I worked there, but the spirit of excitement to learn brought an energy that just can’t be defined or replaced. The students kept me young. I will never forget my years working at Notre Dame.

Amish Flower Garden
Every year the Amish community in Bremen, Indiana holds a “Garden Walk” with several Amish families participating. The annual Amish Garden Walk in the Rentown area is Saturday, June 16, 2012 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. They ask for a donation ($7.00) which helps the local Amish school. There are always new discoveries to be made among the neat rows of vegetables and bright flowers. (And no weeds!)
The Amish Garden Walk starts at the Amish School house with a sweet snack and beverage for everyone to enjoy. They also sell fresh baked goods, with proceeds benefiting the Amish community. As we walk to the different Amish gardens, the Amish grocery store gives out “FREE” homemade ice cream. It’s a great way to spend a day, and we’re helping the children in the Amish community learn by donating to their school! Don’t forget to bring your camera!

This coming weekend August 19 and 20, the Notre Dame students will be moving into their dorms for the first time if they are Freshmen or returning if a upper class student. It is the sign that summer is almost over and the first Notre Dame football game is just around the corner. Notre Dame’s first football game is on Saturday, September 3, (Labor Day weekend) against Southern Florida at 3:30 PM Eastern time in the afternoon. The Scottish Bed and Breakfast still has some guestrooms available for the Notre Dame football season. We do not raise our rates for the games, but have a two-night minimum. If you are looking for the PERFECT place to stay where you can escape the hub bub of crowded restaurants and long lines before and after the game, the Scottish Bed and Breakfast is the place to stay. You can come back to the Scottish Bed and Breakfast and just relax by the indoor pool after a long day of walking Notre Dame campus. One of the things our ND fan enjoys is hearing the band play before the game, a ND tradition. The weekend of September 15 – 18 the Nappanee Apple Festival is held in Nappanee, Indiana. During the four day festival there will be live entertainment on two stages, carnival rides, over 100 craft booths and 50 commercial booths, 15 different food vendors, and a huge parade with an airplane flyover on Saturday morning. other events include an apple peeling contest, 5K road run, half marathon, a 25K, 50K and 100K bike ride, apple pie eating contest, wings and wheels show (cars and airplanes), farm tractor. Everything “apple” like apple dumplings, apple pie, apple butter, apple fritter bread, apple turnovers, homemade applesauce and much more!
An interesting history about the Apple Festival. It began in 1975 and has continued every year since, including the annual baking of the famous 7 foot apple pie weighing in at 600 lbs. The festival has become an important part of the heritage of Nappanee. With over 72,000 visitors in 2010, we have grown to become one of the largest festivals in the State of Indiana!
